Wrapping up 2010

Christmas was great this year, although it felt like it came and went way too fast. I really don’t want to take down my Christmas stuff – not just because it’s a hassle, but it feels like I just barely put it all up.

We were able to see family around the holidays and do three straight days of gift exchanges with parents and it was great seeing them. This morning Brett’s parents and his brother Chad and his family went home but they’ve been hanging out here since Monday and it was great seeing them too!

Now we’re wrapping up the new year with a little bit of news: (No, I am not pregnant.)

I guess it’s safe to finally say that Brett switched jobs! He started this week as a buyer for Carmax.

I’ll make this perfectly clear:

Brett is BUYER. Not a salesman. There’s a difference.

He can’t get you a great deal on a car. Sorry folks. However if you were looking to sell a car or trade in a car – he’s one of the guys you see.

So far he really likes the environment and we love that his hours will be nowhere near the hours he was working at Kohl’s. He’ll be working a regular 40 hour week and he’ll have Sundays off! For some reason neither of us remembered that car lots are rarely open on Sundays and we just assumed he’d be working Sundays like every other job he’s worked. Then he came home and told me and we both didn’t know what to do with this glorious news – laugh? Cry? Hug? Shake hands? What is this – every single Sunday?!

We’re excited.

This year we went all over

In January we went to the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona – Boise won.

In March Brett went to Alabama with his brother to help his Uncle clear some land for a week. It sounds like a lot of hard labor, but when it involved shooting guns, four wheeling and cutting things down with chain saws you’ll understand why he looks at it like a vacation.

In June we went to Newport Beach and Las Vegas on the annual Smith Family vacation. It was a blast and the sunburns were worth it!

In August Brett and I went to Italy. It was the final word in unbelievable destinations. It still feels like a dream that we even went.

In early November Chad, Katie, Brett and I all went to Idaho for a Boise home game against Hawaii – Boise won.

In December:

I went to Colorado for a weekend to see my little brother graduate with his bachelor’s degree.

Brett went to Vegas to watch the Maaco Bowl. And not to rub it in anyone’s faces – Boise won.

I honestly feel like I’m leaving a few things out.

Already next year we are planning trips again. Because that’s what we do – Smith’s vacation. Some people have hobbies – the Smith’s have vacations.

This next year we’ll visit South Lake Tahoe – a regular Smith vacation spot for over the last 100 years. (No seriously, there are pictures to prove it.) We’re also tossing the idea around of going to Alabama to visit Brett’s Aunt and Uncle. I think Brett’s itching to do some more four wheeling and shooting too. We’ll see what this year has in store for us but it’s always possible we’ll do a few mini vacations too.

Other than vacations we hope to see family often and enjoy this next year! I know we’re already looking forward to warmer weather too!

We hope you have a wonderful and safe new year as well!
