Vacation 2012: Monterey Day 1

I'm finally getting around to posting!

We had a fantastic time in California this year.  We did and saw a lot and got in lots of rest and relaxation.  It was a nice change since the weather was hovering in the 60's and 70's.  We wore jackets and sweaters for most of the vacation and we loved it!

The first stop after meeting Chad, Katie & Brady at the airport, (Lexi & Ella had beat us all by a week to hang out with Grandma & Papa Smith) we headed straight to Monterey.
Brett was excited.  (He had just had a chocolate shake - for those observant few.)

We made it in two vehicles and the girls were almost as excited as Brett.

We arrived at our hotel and it blew all of our expectations away:

This is the view from the lobby windows.  Our hotel room view wasn't much different:

This was taken at our door - it was amazing.  We loved having the sound of the waves crashing on the shore lull us to sleep at night.

It was hard to tear ourselves away from the view to get our bags and get settled.  Luckily Katie is always there for an incredible photo bomb.

Our views were very picturesque and we loved the nice cool breeze.

I think we spent a couple hours just sitting out on the patio area near our rooms, soaking up the sun, but making sure we had a good sweater.  The weather got to me and Katie but the kids and the boys decided to brave the waves.

He said it was FREEZING!

But they were able to stay out there for a while.  I was chilly just watching them.  Immediately after his swim, he went and took a very hot shower to warm up.  I think our entire hotel room was filled with steam once he was done!

The rest of the evening was spent in search of chowder in bread bowls (We had so many during this trip that if I don't have another for about 5 years, I'll be good.)  Then afterward we relaxed in our room and enjoyed the sound of the waves.

Here are some more pictures of our awesome view:

Next up: The Monterey Bay Aquarium
